SaxonAir recruits catering manager to capitalise on growing appetite for events

SaxonAir has recruited a catering manager to take its state-of-the-art headquarters at Norwich International Airport to the next level in terms of conferencing and events.

Newly appointed John Freeman takes on the role following some significant brands using the facility to host a variety of events across the back end of last year.

"Following on from the success of these events and a growing appetite from the local business community to use our hangar space to host premier events, we have looked to invest in our own in-house capability to deliver at a really high standard," said CEO Alex Durand.John Freeman

"In conjunction with our conferencing facilities the ability to cater for large scale events really puts us on the map as a business event venue. What's really great is the unique experience we can offer people, from hosting a meeting with views of the apron, to eventing in the main hangar along with a range of private jets and helicopters, it really is a unique space.

The development of John's role at SaxonAir demonstrates an investment from us to move whole-heartedly into this market. John is managing our on-site café along with the function catering but also investigating a number of opportunities to deliver on external contracts from the base."

John's career has seen him working at some of London's best hotels in a hands-on role before migrating into a more managerial role that saw him overseeing the catering at the Youth Hostel Association's flagship hotel. John returned to Norwich working at the Airport under the Cater Leisure brand before joining SaxonAir in late 2018.

Since moving to join the team at SaxonAir John has already transformed the conferencing facilities and dramatically changed the offering in terms of catering standard. The new capacity John brings to the SaxonAir team also means they can now offer in-flight catering.

"This new role is a great opportunity to really put SaxonAir on the map within the business community and demonstrate the unique style of events that can be held in such an exciting and versatile space. I'm already working on a number of opportunities to develop the offering here further," said John Freeman.
