BCA senior editors say farewell

All-digital path for new editorial team.

By Kelly Murphy

We close 2020 saying good-bye to dear friends and colleagues in the world of business aviation media.

Three long-time editors of Business and Commercial Aviation magazine, Jessica Salerno, executive editor; William Garvey, editor-in-chief, and Fred George, senior editor and chief pilot penned a fond farewell on the AvWeek website in mid-November and posted a video announcement on YouTube.

Molly McMillan, BCA managing editor, introduced the editors that “together have over 100 years of experience and have delivered thousands of stories.”

Jessica joined in 1968 and is the longest serving member of BCA ultimately rising to executive editor. She served as “the ringmaster of all at the magazine and the go-to authority on the magazine’s archives.”

Bill Garvey, a legend in business aviation, joined the magazine in 2000. During his 20 years at the helm, BCA received 60 different awards for editorial excellence. (Resilient Issue 4)

George joined the magazine in 1981 and has flown left seat in more than 225 makes/models of aircraft. A former Naval aviator, Fred’s forte was writing countless pilot reports read throughout the industry.

The three legacy editors shared some of their favorite memories during their careers, and McMillan also took the opportunity to introduce the next-generation Business Aviation editorial team including Lee Ann Shay, Business Aviation & MRO executive editor, and Bill Carey, Business Aviation senior editor. Molly, who will remain as Business Aviation managing editor, noted that the magazine would move to an all-digital platform.

Thank you Jessica, Bill and Fred for all the wonderful memories during your aviation journalism career and countless trips to shows, conferences, and flights all around the world. Enjoy your much-earned retirement!
