Teruel, SpainTARMAC Aerosave inaugurates the world's largest metal-textile hangar |
Built in the record time of nine months, TARMAC Aerosave's seventh maintenance hangar - the fourth at its Teruel site in Spain - was inaugurated on October 8th.
At 95 meters long, 85 meters wide, and reaching nearly 34 meters in height, this metalo-textile structure is the largest of its kind in the world. Designed to accommodate the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger aircraft, as well as up to four A320s, it covers over 8,000 square meters, with more than 7,700 square meters dedicated solely to aircraft maintenance. Additional space is reserved for offices and facilities for our growing workforce.
With the addition of this EUR15m hangar, TARMAC Aerosave's aircraft maintenance offering now comprises four hangars in Teruel, two in Tarbes and one in Toulouse.
Designed by Spantech, specialists in modular aeronautical structures, the hangar is a true engineering achievement. Its innovative design - built with a steel and aluminum frame, and insulated using advanced rock wool panels - makes it fully dismantlable and reusable. The fire-resistant PVC roof adds another layer of safety and durability, while the structure is specially reinforced to withstand the local weather conditions, including heavy winds and snow. High brightness and temperature control provide optimal working conditions.
What sets this hangar apart is its temporary yet highly efficient nature. This flexibility allows the company to meet the increased demand for aircraft maintenance. At the same time, the structure is entirely recyclable at the end of its life cycle, demonstrating TARMAC Aerosave’s commitment to sustainability and smart resource management.
"A year after celebrating the site's 10th anniversary, we believe more than ever in the future of this platform and its potential," said Alexandre Brun, CEO of TARMAC Aerosave.
"That's why we're investing in new infrastructure today. This hangar represents our ongoing commitment to supporting the growth of the aviation market, as more and more aircraft take to the skies. We were able to complete the construction of this hangar in a remarkably short space of time, demonstrating once again the synergy and team spirit that reign here."
