Global energy leader World Fuel Services (WFS) has expanded its on-the-ground operations in Europe, at the same time as driving closer partnerships and scaling up work at existing bases.

This follows the completed acquisition of ExxonMobil’s General Aviation Network earlier this year, which has led to WFS physically operating at an additional 80 airports, bringing the total worldwide to more than 100.

In Europe, 22 airports were brought on board - six in the UK, three in France, six in Germany and seven in Italy. WFS now operates out of 46 airports across the Continent, creating a unique regional network of hubs for its customers, who can benefit from the peace of mind that they can access WFS’ digital tools, technical support and payment services in more locations than ever.

World Fuel Services’ vice president Mark Amor commented that a major factor fuelling its recent success is the way in which the company is embracing a new way of engaging the aviation sector and delivering services: “Regional commercial and business aviation airports and fixed base operators in particular are looking for new models to support their diverse customer base and grow their business,” he said.

“Traditional fuel provision offerings and service approaches no longer work for a fast-evolving sector, which is why we are listening to customers and remodelling solutions with innovative technology and robust technical services that can meet the current and future challenges faced by the sector. We are committed to supporting the wider industry as a partner, not just another supplier.”

In the UK alone several new airports have selected WFS. WFS now provides a significant part of the requirements at Liverpool John Lennon Airport with new operational support that has fixed a number of issues, and has been chosen as the fuel supplier to Farnborough airport.

At other locations, WFS has expanded its operations with customer-centric solutions. At Southampton Airport, it has adapted its service model to speed up plane turnaround times, while at Birmingham Airport, WFS invested to support the construction of new fuel storage and supply facilities that will help the airport meet future growth needs.

“We globally serve operators of all aviation types - commercial, business, general and military - giving us the capability to address a broad range of challenges, utilising knowledge and expertise from across our business to adapt to the operational requirement on-the-ground,” said Mark.

“We are taking a proactive approach to understanding our customers’ problems. We develop solutions that address long-standing challenges in the market for airports, FBOs and customers. Our ability to manage pricing, quality, value and innovation throughout the supply chain is central to our differentiation and testament to this is the excitement and willingness to change that we are seeing across Europe and the globe.”

In addition to significant expansion across the UK, WFS has the capacity to deliver flexible and tailored solutions to any customer type. This ability is evidenced by its work with the emergency services work of firefighters based at Nimes airport, providing much-needed, consistent support during the recent forest fires in the south of France and Corsica. In Germany, too, WFS has been supplying fuel and logistics services to life-saving medevac vehicles and personnel.
