Business aviation connectivity expert Satcom
Direct has launched CyberSAFE (Securing Assets for End Users), the latest
offering in its suite of cyber security services.
The new course, developed by Logical
Operations which certified SD to deliver the materials, will educate users about
technology-related risks and provide practical solutions to this continuously
emerging threat to business and industry. It is the latest addition to SD’s
growing portfolio of certified aviation courses.
SD’s new CyberSAFE course is designed for
anyone interfacing, supporting or interacting with the aircraft communications
including crew, flight department members and passengers. The course is designed
to educate end users about what to do, and what not to do, since educated users
keep networks safer. CyberSAFE will help users understand security compliance
considerations, social engineering, malware, and various other
data-security-related concepts.
“Something as innocent as opening an email or
clicking on links, or even using an infected USB drive in a network computer,
can result in a serious breach. The CyberSAFE course educates users about
technology-related risks and their responsibilities as an end-user in protecting
organizations from them,” said Mark
Mata, director of training at SD.
The course is designed for self-paced
learning, but it also can be delivered in person and via online, live
instructor-led sessions through SD’s Learning Management System (LMS) at
satcomdirect.motivelearning.com. Taking approximately three hours it is followed
by an online assessment, which upon successful completion delivers students the
Certified CyberSAFE credential.
“It’s surprising how little thought many of us
give to cyber security in our day-to-day actions but cyber attacks are on the
increase. Human error has been identified as the leading cause of cyber security
incidents and end-user education is one of the top ways to prevent network
infection,” said Mata.
SD also launched its free international Cyber
Seminar Series at AfBAC EXPO 2017, in Johannesburg last week. The short
workshops, outline the process of understanding cyber security and provide an
overview of SD’s cyber security solutions. In addition, the free seminars
provide an excellent introduction to the new SD CyberSAFE course which is one
component of the wider SD Cyber Security Solutions Risk Assessment process. The
suite of services, launched at NBAA, also includes SD’s free Cyber Smart Kit and
the SD Cyber Security Solutions product.
New in 2018, SD will also offer a Cyber
Security Risk Management course to flight departments to support their
understanding of the implications of, and resolutions to, cyber attacks.
Approved by the NBAA as part of its Professional Development Program, the course
will make its debut in June during NBAA’s annual training day. The course is
part of NBAA’s Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) credential.
